1. Eligibility to participate in the Pension Fund
Eligibility commences upon entering the service of a UNJSPF member organization with an appointment for 6 months or more OR upon completing 6 months of continuous service without an interruption of more than 30 days, provided that participation in the Fund is not expressly excluded by the terms the appointment.
2. Contributions
Contributions are automatically deducted from your salary each month and reported to the Pension Fund. Your employing organization share is twice your amount.
3. Break in Service
If you return to service of a UNJSPF member organization within 36-months after separation from service, your participation in the Pension Fund is deemed to have been continuous (provided that no benefit has been paid).
4. Validation
If you enter the Pension Fund after service in a UNJSPF member organization during which you were not eligible to participate in the Fund, you can validate your prior non-contributory period within 12 months from your date of entry into participation in the Pension Fund. Such validated period would count into your total contributory service.
5. Restoration
If you re-enter the Pension Fund after previous period of participation for which a withdrawal settlement has been paid → you can restore your most recent prior period of contributory service within 12 months from your date of re-entry into participation in the Pension Fund.
6. Transfer Agreements
The Pension Fund has entered into Transfer Agreements with a number of international organizations and governments. The terms and conditions of the transfer under each Agreement differ. Access a full list of those Transfer Agreements.
7. Personal information in the Fund’s records
Each participant is responsible to correctly report his/her date of birth, personal status, name(s) and date(s) of birth of all spouse(s), children under the age of 21 or disabled and secondary dependants to his/her employing organization, and to verify that his/her pension annual statement, as distributed each year, accurately reflects this information.
8. Pension Statements
Pension Statements are issued each year, and provide active participants with information regarding their personal status and date of birth in the Pension Fund’s records, length of contributory service, total contributions to the Pension Fund and pensionable remuneration (PR). Participants can access their statements through the Member Self Service (MSS) Portal on the Pension Fund’s website.
9. Special leave without pay (SLWOP)
If you have been granted special leave without pay (SLWOP) you have two options: (i) to pay your own and the organizational share of the monthly contributions to the Pension Fund concurrently with the SLWOP (this has to be arranged with the employing organization before the SLWOP); OR (ii) not to pay contributions and not to accrue pension rights for the period of the SLWOP.
10. Re-entering the Pension Fund after already entitled to or in receipt of a periodic pension benefit
Upon re-entering the Pension Fund, the periodic pension benefit is suspended and no benefit is payable until the participant dies or again separates from service. If the participant separates from service again, he/she is entitled for the additional period of contributory service to a withdrawal settlement or a periodic pension benefit, subject to the conditions listed in the Pension Fund’s Regulations.
