New Chief Investment Officer starts at the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund

The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) is pleased to announce that Mr. Toru Shindo has been appointed Chief Investment Officer for the UNJSPF/Office of Investment Management (OIM). Mr. Shindo will assume office in May 2021.

Mr. Shindo brings over 30 years of investment and management experience to the UNJSPF. He most recently served as Deputy Director for Global Equities in the OIM, where he was responsible for management of investments in Global Public and Private Equities since 2009. He joined the UNJSPF as Investment Officer for Asia Pacific in 2004 and became Senior Investment Officer for Asia Pacific in 2007.

Prior to joining the UNJSPF, Mr. Shindo was a Director at Deutsche Trust Bank in Tokyo focused on active management of international equity for the public and private pension funds. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Mr. Shindo has been previously associated with Bankers Trust and Nikko Securities.

Mr. Shindo earned his BA in Economics from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and his MBA from New York University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

The OIM is responsible for managing the investments for the UNJSPF. It works to ensure that the Fund can fully discharge its obligation to provide retirement, death, disability and related benefits to the over 211,000 active and retired staff of the United Nations and 24 other member organizations of the Fund.

The OIM strives to ensure that the assets of the Fund are managed prudently and optimally, and achieve its long-term investment return objective, in order to ensure the financial sustainability of the Fund.
