The UNJSPF has achieved a transparency score of 87 from CEM Benchmarking, nearly doubling its mark over a period of two years.
CEM Benchmarking, a third-party organization that provides objective, actionable benchmarking insight to pension funds and administrators, compares the Fund’s public disclosures to the five largest pension organizations in 15 countries, as well as a subset of peer funds. This benchmarking does not represent a standard-setting effort, since each organization is subject to different legislation, regulation and governance.
UNJSPF’s total transparency score ranked 11 among the 75 assessed funds, exceeding the average scores of both the peer group and the broader comparable set.
CEM assesses disclosure across four categories: performance, cost, responsible investing and governance. Across each category, UNJSPF has raised its score each year since 2022.
Within responsible investing, governance and performance, UNJSPF outperformed the average of both the broader set and the peer group. In terms of cost transparency, the Fund has raised its score by 137 per cent in two years. The actions needed to further increase transparency in the cost category have been identified and several have already been implemented. Next year’s rating will reflect this positive impact.
The Fund received perfect scores in several sub-categories. These included environmental, social and governance integration disclosure--which reflects implementing responsible investing across investment, risk management and external manager evaluation; active investing disclosure--which relates to direct investment to promote sustainability; and active ownership disclosure--which reflects disclosing policies around engaging with investees to bring about change.
Transparency is a continuous and ongoing priority for UNJSPF, which is committed to providing its stakeholders with a clear view into its governance, activities, aspirations and commitments.
