UNJSPF and partners showcase responsible digital innovation at WSIS+20 side event

16 December 2025

New York, 15 December 2025 — The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), hosted a high-profile side event at the WSIS+20 UNGA High-Level Meeting: “From high-level principles to reality: a multi-UN entities partnership as a blueprint for responsible digital innovation.”

The event convened leaders and innovators from across the UN system to demonstrate how collaboration transforms visionary principles into practical solutions. The session was streamed live from UN Headquarters in New York and is available for replay on UN Web TV.

Panelists included Dino Dell’Accio, Deputy Chief Executive, UNJSPF; David Bearfield, Director of Human Resources, UNDP; Massimiliano Merelli, Programme Director, UN Digital ID Programme, UNICC and UN HLCM; and Anusha Dandapani, Chief, Artificial Intelligence Hub, UNICC. They presented flagship initiatives that exemplify the UN’s commitment to responsible governance and ethical technology.

The UNJSPF Digital Identity Solution (Digital Certificate of Entitlement), developed in partnership with UNICC, enables beneficiaries to securely transmit their annual proof of life via a blockchain-based application. Governed by international standards for responsible AI and digital governance, the solution ensures privacy, security, accessibility, and interoperability. Its adoption continues to expand, with electronic kiosks being deployed in 18 UNDP country offices—a concrete step toward bridging the digital divide and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Building upon the UNJSPF Digital Certificate of Entitlement, the UN Digital ID, sponsored by the HLCM and developed by UNICC, is transforming identity verification across the UN system. It streamlines processes and enhances security and privacy for UN staff. The solution is being scaled system-wide, with 12 organizations already participating and additional entities joining soon.

The UNICC’s AI Hub coordinates UN-wide efforts in AI governance, capacity-building, and responsible deployment. It ensures that AI solutions are ethical, sustainable, and impactful, supporting the UN’s digital transformation agenda.

The event showcased that technology creates real impact when paired with collaboration. Speakers recognized that the partnership between UNJSPF, UNDP, UNICC, and other UN entities is accelerating digital transformation and setting new standards for responsible innovation. Digital identity solutions and AI governance are improving efficiency, security, and inclusiveness across the UN system. The UN is taking bold steps to modernize its processes, and staff can be proud of the organization’s commitment to ethical, forward-looking innovation.
