Geneva, 11 July 2025. This week, UNJSPF leadership and staff participated in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) High-Level Event and AI for Good Forum. The events provided the opportunity for the UNJSPF to showcase its digital transformation work to a multi-stakeholder audience. The Digital Certificate of Entitlement (DCE) and UN Digital ID stood out as concrete examples of digitalization, process automation and UN partnerships in action.
Rosemarie McClean, Chief Executive of Pension Administration, participated in the United Nations High-Level Leader’s Dialogue, highlighting the solution-driven use of emerging technology. “During the pandemic, we were faced with the issue of mail postage challenges, and the need to receive annual proofs of life from our beneficiaries in over 190 countries in order for them to continue receiving their monthly benefits”, she explained, adding: “Thus, we partnered with the United Nations Computing Centre to provide a solution that would facilitate the annual verification process via digital means.”
The DCE and UN Digital ID were also presented at the WSIS session on Digital identity solutions: opportunities and challenges in the pursuit of inclusiveness, organized by UNJSPF in collaboration with UNICC.
Dino Dell’Accio, Chief Information Officer at UNJSPF, explained: “The DCE provides UNJSPF beneficiaries with the option to submit their annual proof of live digitally, and this year we are proud to announce that our Pension Fund is the first UN entity being accredited for the responsible use of AI for the detection of deep fakes in our digital identity solution”. “The UN Digital ID allows staff to review the correctness of their data on the app before it is transmitted to the UNJSPF as one of its use cases now used across six UN entities, with more joining in the coming months” added Max Merelli, Programme Director of the UN Digital ID initiative at UNICC.
Other speakers at the session included Dr. May Siksik, President and CEO, Innovation Network Canada, who spoke about emerging technologies and inclusivity from a health sector perspective, and Mr. Ahmed Elghadban, Director atQuantumy.ai, who addressed the risks and opportunities of quantum technology.
During the week CIO Dino Dell’Accio and Mirko Montuori, UNJSPF Public Information Officer, also participated in the United Nations Group on the Information Society (UNGIS) High-Level and Working-Level meetings, reiterating the importance of promoting concrete examples of digital cooperation in action, also referencing ITU United Nations AI Activities Report.
The Geneva events also hosted two UNJSPF booths, where staff from the Pension Fund helped UN staff and retirees enroll in the DCE and addressed queries from clients and stakeholders.
The week concluded with the award for the UNJSPF Communications Team as winner and finalist of the WSIS Photo Contest 2025 for the submission of two photos of UNJSPF staff helping beneficiaries enroll in the DCE.
